As Leipzig is just over an hour away by train and our last trip was on a cold day (limiting how far we were able to go) so we decided to take another day trip to Leipzig:
Rathaus and main market square:

St. Nicholas Church (Nikolai-kirche): The center of the Monday Demonstrations in 1989 which lead to the peaceful downfall of the DDR (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monday_demonstrations_in_GDR). A lone column outside the the church, that matches the inside columns and ceilings.

St. Thomas Church, a few facts: Johann Sabastian Bach was a choir director here from 1723 until his death in 1750, Mozart played the organ here, Martin Luther gave a sermon here, and Wagner was baptized here (more
